Which metro lines are closing, and when?
Some lines will be closed, and a replacement bus service will be provided for the metro on the affected routes. We understand that this may create challenges in your daily commute, and we are working hard to offer you a good alternative throughout all phases of the upgrade.

March 28–November 3: Lines 2 and 3
Line 2 Østerås–Ellingsrudåsen
- The metro only runs between Østerås and Borgen and between Stortinget and Ellingsrudåsen.
- On the Østerås–Borgen route, the subway runs with departures every 15 minutes, which means there are fewer departures than usual.
- Bus 2B replaces the metro between Borgen and Majorstuen. Departures every three minutes.
Line 3 Kolsås–Mortensrud
- The metro only runs between Kolsås and Borgen and between Stortinget and Mortensrud.
- Bus 2B replaces the metro between Borgen and Majorstuen. Departures every three minutes.
Extra buses during rush hour
Bus 45/45X – Increased capacity during rush hour:
45X runs only between Majorstuen-Hovseter. Morning: from Hovseter towards Majorstuen. Afternoon: from Majorstuen towards Hovseter.
Bus 46/46 – Increased capacity during rush hour:
46X only operates between Majorstuen and Ullerntoppen. Morning: from Ullerntoppen towards Majorstuen. Afternoon: from Majorstuen towards Ullerntoppen.
Bus 140E and 150 – Increased capacity in the morning.
Bus 150E – Will be stopping by Bekkestua and enhancing the service there during the morning rush.
August 11–September 19: Majorstuen Station
Line 1 Frognerseteren–Helsfyr
Majorstuen station is closed for boarding and alighting. All trains will pass by without stopping.
Note: From 11 to 18 August, Line 1 is cancelled between Skogen and Frognerseteren. A maxi taxi operates between Holmenkollen and Frognerseteren. Check the journey planner or the Ruter app.
Line 2 Østerås–Ellingsrudåsen
Closed between Borgen and Stortinget.
Line 3 Kolsås–Mortensrud
Closed between Borgen and Stortinget.
Line 4 Vestli–Bergkrystallen
Majorstuen station is closed for boarding and alighting. All trains will pass by without stopping.
Line 5 Sognsvann–Ringen–Vestli
Majorstuen station is closed for boarding and alighting. All trains will pass by without stopping.
September 7: Lines 1–5
Line 1 Frognerseteren–Helsfyr

September 8: Lines 4 and 5
There will be some changes to lines 4 and 5 during both daytime and evening hours.

Veitvet station (westbound towards Vestli) is closed for boarding and alighting. The metro will pass without stopping.
After around 9:00 p.m.:

Stortinget station and Veitvet station (westbound towards Vestli) are closed for boarding and alighting. The metro will pass without stopping.
September 9–14: Lines 1–5
Majorstuen station is closed for boarding and alighting. All trains will pass by without stopping.

Why is the metro being upgraded?
The metro is being upgraded to provide you with faster travel and more frequent departures. That's why we call the project 'The great metro upgrade'. The upgrade consists of three major projects:
- Upgrade of Majorstuen station
- Connection of the Fornebu Line to the existing metro network
- Installation of new signaling and interlocking system (CBTC)
Sporveien and Fornebubanen are carrying out the work, which will provide Oslo with a more modern and efficient metro network.
Majorstuen Station
Majorstuen is one of the most important stations on the Oslo Metro. The upgrade will make it easier to travel, allow for more departures, and increase capacity.
The new station will receive
- larger platforms with more space
- multiple accesses to the station
- a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge for safer and faster crossing
With the new signaling system, the upgrades will facilitate a capacity of 36-40 trains per hour in each direction through the downtown tunnel.

The Fornebubanen is a new metro line from Fornebu to Majorstuen, via Lysaker and Skøyen. When the line is connected to the current metro network, travelers will have a direct route between Fornebu and Oslo. This will strengthen public transport options, relieve car traffic in the area, and provide more people with an environmentally friendly travel alternative.

Sporveien is installing a new digital signal and safety system called CBTC (Communication-Based Train Control). This will allow trains to run closer together and more frequently, providing passengers with more departures.
